There are a couple different ways to protect your system, files, and
customized settings. If your system is on a network, you most likely already
have a user name and password that was assigned by your companys system
administrator, but protecting your non-networked home system requires some
effort on your part.
One way to protect your system is to set it up for multiple users, each with
their own profile and password. When a user logs on to the system, they are
asked for their user name and password and then shown their own customized
desktop. This wont protect documents saved on your hard drive, but it will
protect your customized Desktop and settings, including any folders or documents
youve saved to your desktop.
This is a handy trick for users who want to keep kids out of their sensitive
files without password protecting every single document. Once youve enabled
multiple users, you also can password protect the system when it goes into
Standby or Hibernation mode.
